McCormick Tractors: A Legacy of Agricultural Excellence
McCormick Tractors International Ltd., a subsidiary of ARGO SpA, has a rich history rooted in the agricultural machinery industry. Established in 2000, the company’s roots trace back to Case IH, International Harvester, and New Holland Ag. The formation of McCormick Tractors was driven by the need to meet European Union regulatory requirements for a merger between Case IH and New Holland Ag.
The McCormick Legacy
The name “McCormick” pays homage to the McCormick family, known for their contributions to the agricultural sector in both Chicago and Virginia. McCormick Tractors International Ltd. proudly carries this legacy forward.
Tractors that Stand the Test of Time
At its inception, the company acquired valuable assets, including the Case IH tractor manufacturing plant in Doncaster, England, and the rights to various Case IH tractor models. Among these were the C, CX, and MX-C models, as well as a license to produce MX Maxxum tractors. These assets formed the foundation of McCormick Tractors’ operations.
A Shift to Italy
As the company evolved, production shifted to the ARGO Tractors factory in Fabbrico, Italy. This transition marked a significant milestone in the company’s history, allowing it to streamline operations and enhance manufacturing efficiency. The Fabbrico site, originally the main Landini factory, now produces a unified range of products under both the Landini and McCormick brands.
A Bittersweet Farewell
In December 2006, McCormick Tractors International Ltd. made the difficult decision to close its Doncaster facility, resulting in the loss of approximately 325 jobs. This news resonated not only due to the job losses but also because of its timing, just before the Christmas season. Despite this change, the company continued to thrive and adapt.
The Russian Connection
The legacy of McCormick tractors lives on globally. The KamAZ company purchased the assembly line from the Doncaster facility, with plans to assemble a version of the XTX series tractor in Russia. This step further demonstrates the enduring international impact of McCormick tractors.
A New Chapter
As the company continued to grow, international sales, service support, and marketing activities shifted to the Italian factory. An independent distributor took on these responsibilities for Great Britain, as well as all of Ireland in 2017, ensuring that McCormick tractors receive the attention and support they deserve.
McCormick Tractors International Ltd. stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of innovation, adaptability, and commitment to quality in the agricultural machinery industry.
