ARBOS: An Italian Agricultural Machinery Company Innovating Agriculture

ARBOS is an Italian agricultural machinery company located in Migliarina di Carpi, Modena, Italy. Founded in 1954 in Piacenza, Italy, ARBOS specializes in manufacturing tractors, fertilizer equipment, seeding equipment, and sprayers.

History of ARBOS

The name ARBOS originated from the acronym of two Piacenza businessmen, Araldi and Boselli. In 1952, it was acquired by Bubba S.A., a company that traced its roots back to SAFI in Piacenza, which had taken over “Pietro Bubba & C.” in 1930, the company that produced Bubba agricultural tractors.

During the Arbos-Bubba period, in 1954, the company became Arbos-Bubba and introduced a wheeled tractor equipped with a 35 HP Perkins P4TA diesel engine. The next year, they launched a tracked version with a choice of two engines, either the Perkins P4TA or the 32 HP Deutz F2L514. However, these tractors did not achieve significant success. By the end of December 1955, only 33 wheeled versions and 9 tracked versions had been sold. In 1956, the brand dropped the Bubba name and became simply Arbos. They began producing combine harvesters, including the 100 C combine harvester and the Allodola 650 with a Fiat diesel engine, followed by the 1000 Super and the 750 Super.

In 1960, Arbos-Bubba transitioned to Arbos Spa and started manufacturing combine harvesters in a new plant in San Lazzaro, close to Piacenza. In 1964, Arbos Spa was acquired by the American company White. This acquisition led to the release of the flagship of European combine harvesters, the 1220, followed by several new models, such as the 780, Record, 120 Pantera, 165 Tigre, 100 Lince, and 125 Giaguaro.

In 1971, Arbos launched the Pantera 7 Colli, the world’s first self-leveling combine harvester with leveling on four sides, both longitudinal and transversal. However, in 1972, Arbos Spa became a branch of White, and in 1975, White Arbos Spa ceased trading.

In 1976, Arbos Spa was bought by the Magni brothers and renamed Nuova Arbos. The new company introduced self-leveling tractors and specialized in beet harvesters. Over the years, the range of combine harvesters expanded, including models like the 400 AL and the 200 AL.

Despite its ups and downs, Arbos Spa folded in 1994, almost reaching its centenary.

Resurgence of ARBOS

In 2011, Lovol Heavy Industry Ltd., a Chinese manufacturer of tractors, agricultural machines, and earthmoving machinery, established a research and development center in Calderara di Reno, Italy, to coordinate its European activities. After acquiring Arbos and Bubba, this center became the headquarters of a new holding, Lovol Arbos Group Spa. The primary goal was to design three tractor platforms ranging from 100 to 270 HP and to leverage Arbos’s industrial know-how in combine harvesters.

In 2015, the ARBOS Group launched an ambitious acquisition plan aimed at consolidating its position as a leading international brand in agricultural mechanization. The group acquired MaterMacc, a company specializing in agricultural equipment, and Goldoni S.p.A., a historic producer of orchard tractors. These acquisitions marked strategic starting points for the group’s industrial expansion.

The year 2016 saw ARBOS expand its facility in Migliarina di Carpi, focusing on upgrading assembly lines, renovating offices, and building a new engineering center. The company’s presence and product offerings continued to grow, aiming to support the entire agronomic cycle, from land preparation to harvesting.

In 2017, during Agritechnica, ARBOS officially presented a full line of tractors and equipment, positioning itself as a protagonist in the European market with products catering to the entire agricultural cycle, from soil preparation to harvesting.
